I could preface this

But I won’t.

I am working on promoting my book online, this one:

I am a former journalist who worked in public relations for years. That means I should be able to find things, and I can promote anything in print, on TV, or radio, but holy… in the three years I have been studying and NOT working in public relations, uh, the entire world has turned to blogs.

One of those blog areas (for authors) are book review sites, and although there are X number of book publishing gurus out there trying to tell you how they sold their books, many often only sell copies of books about how to sell books. You know, they wrote a book or two, but then they really did better selling books about selling books.

Given that, you would think there would be better lists of online book reviewers or book review sites available from these experts. But most lists are old or filled with dead links, or the sites are still up but uninhabited. So, I will spend a little time looking, and post when I find dead or working book reviewers or book review sites. Good?

What’s it all about?

It is about finishing things.

So, in case it has seemed terribly quiet in my life lately, let me tell you, it has not been. I spent the last few years (or a few more than that, actually) studying to finish my university degree.

University is meant to be four years, right? In most cases (if you go right after high school or do the full course load your school asks of you) but not in mine. I love that I have now finished my degree, but boy, do I hate the math.

I spent two years at university (years and years ago), then a summer in another university, and then started back to university in Sept. 2010 for good. Not full-time, though. I wanted to ease into it, but that just costs more and more time.

And – get ready for this – seven semesters later… I finished – finally! – and picked up my degree June 10, 2014. Gawd!! Sept. 2010 to June 2014 to finish two years of university…

Deep breath… Luckily, I spent the last year of those studies overseas and managed to write a book about it at the same time, which will appear on here so frequently it will cease to be funny. But the book is funny…

So I have that going for me. But for now, I have this. Age back to school for the final push: oh, maybe 45-ish. Age as international exchange student overseas: 48. Age at degree pick-up: 49.

New paperback out Oct. 15, 2014

It is time to get ready for my newest book, the first one I have published since 1997. If all goes well, it will be available in a few days (Oct. 15, 2014) in all the usual book-selling places. If you can’t find it where you want it, you can somehow let me know and I will do something about it.

In this first post, I am not sure I will go into detail about it. All of the following posts will be about living the life that leads to books like this anyway. So if you hang around a bit, you will find out more than enough, soon enough.

For now, I just want to put this word out into the world. I will follow it up with more.
